Beyond the Suit

Beyond the Suit combines the power of fashion and a fundraising campaign to engage all participants in empowering women on their journey to economic independence.

In partnership with Scotiabank, Dress for Success Toronto presents Beyond the Suit, a fashion-focused fundraising initiative, designed intentionally to support the Clients of DFS Toronto.

The campaign will kick off with participating organizations collecting much needed professional clothing and monetary donations in support of our Boutique and Client services. This will be followed by a series of fashion-focused virtual workshops, led by industry experts.

The fall 2023 fundraiser will culminate in an unforgettable in-person fashion event, where attendees will be inspired by Client’s powerful stories and witness firsthand the impact of DFS Toronto’s programs.

Through this event, DFS Toronto aims to celebrate the organization’s mission, services, and, most importantly, the remarkable women it serves. Join us and help women achieve a possibility-filled future for themselves and their families.

This year, you can help us reach our fundraising goal of $175,000

Event Outline

This year’s fundraiser will feature a two week donation drive running from October 16 — 27, 2023.

Participants will work together to raise funds and collect the select professional clothing and accessories that are most in demand.

This year’s event will also feature a Virtual Workshop Series from October 30 — November 17. Participating organizations and DFS Toronto Clients will come together to learn from industry experts on fashion-focused topics as they relate to the world of work.

The fall 2023 fundraiser will culminate in an unforgettable In-Person Fashion Event on Tuesday, November 21, featuring a fashion show and designer clothing sale. Attendees will be inspired by Client’s powerful stories and witness firsthand the impact of DFS Toronto’s programs.

Cleaning & Caring for Your Winter Wardrobe — Thursday, November 2 @ 12 PM

When it comes time to think about your winter wardrobe, you may be wondering: Can I put my wool sweater in the washing machine? How do I keep a white winter coat white? Will a real leather or vegan leather jacket hold up better over time?
 
Join Linley McConnell, garment care expert and Director of Client Experience at Gibson’s Cleaners, for a 45-minute session dedicated to winter wardrobe care. Linley will share tips on how to treat winter fabrics like wool, cashmere, and down, the ‘dos and donts’ when considering a winter wardrobe, and how to store your items for longevity of wear.

Dressing for the Planet — Monday, November 6 @ 6 PM

Explore the current impact of the fashion industry on our planet and discuss how we can all make more sustainable fashion choices together. Patricia aspires to empower women to dress well, sustainably, and on a budget beyond the outfits they receive thus propelling them into a brighter future filled with dignity, confidence, and hope.

Patricia Seward is a the current Miss Canada as well as environmental advocate and champion for women’s empowerment. In this one-hour workshop on Monday, November 6 from 6-7 PM EST, Patricia will be giving shopping and styling tips to teach women how to build a wardrobe while contributing to the circular economy.⁠ ⁠

Mastering Business Casual — Wednesday, November 8 @ 12 PM

Business casual sounds easy, but in actuality can be a tricky dress code to master.

Sarah Collins, of SCIC (Sarah Collins Image Consulting) and Andrea Lenczner, Founder and Designer of Womenswear brand SMYTHE, will help you hone and refine your image for the modern workplace. Through this one-hour workshop, Sarah and Andrea will help attendees create looks that mean business and styling that takes you seriously.

Building a Wardrobe Capsule — Thursday, November 9 @ 12 PM
