Mastering Your Job Search: Step Into Confidence | Wednesday, June 19 & Saturday, June 22, 2024

Mastering Your Job Search: Step Into Confidence is a free, two-day event, designed to build confidence, deepen connection, and celebrate our stories and career journeys.

This year’s event will kick-off virtually on Wednesday, June 19 with a panel discussion. Centered on the different career paths of each speaker, this session will highlight how building confidence plays an ongoing role in each of their journeys.
 
On Saturday, June 22 join us in-person at the Toronto Reference Library for part-two. This uplifting and interactive 3-hour event, will include a panel discussion, interactive stations as well as a networking experience where you can connect with local community groups and other participants.

Virtual Kick-Off & Panel Discussion

Wednesday, June 19 • 12:00 PM — 1:30 PM

To kick-off MYJS 2024, we will gather virtually for an inspiration panel discussion titled Confident Strides & Courageous Steps. Setting the tone for the event, the panel will bring together speakers from diverse backgrounds across job titles, sectors, and lived experiences.

During these 90-minutes, our panelists will share their personal career path. The discussion will be centered on how building confidence has played an ongoing and pivotal role in each of their journeys. 

In-Person Career & Networking Experience

Saturday, June 22 • 1:00 PM — 4:00 PM
Location: Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge Street, Toronto, M4W 2G8)

MYJS 2024 will continue with an uplifting and interactive in-person 3-hour career and networking experience at Toronto Reference Library.

This in-person portion of the event will feature a live panel discussion where our diverse speakers will unpack mistakes and learnings they’ve made on their career journeys. Titled “Well, that happened…”, this conversation will feature women leaders who have as they share how they’ve reframed career mistakes into career growth.

Following their discussion, the event will continue with interactive stations — including a selfie-station and shoe boutique — as well as a community networking experience. 

Additionally, all in-person attendees will receive a DFS Toronto swag bag and be entered to win some incredible prizes!

2023 Virtual Workshops​

  • Session 1 — Navigating Uncertainty, Together
    Tuesday, June 6 (10:00am – 12:00pm)
    Kick off this dynamic week with 
    Media Girlfriends, an award-winning podcast production team led by Hannah Sung, Garvia Bailey, and Nana aba Duncan. You’ll never think of networking the same way again after hearing how these three incredible women became each other’s Personal Board of Directors™️. Work can be challenging, especially during times of transition and doubt. Tune-in to hear how they found a lifeline in each other – it will inspire you to find your own community of supporters.
 
  • Session 2 — Insights from Diverse Hiring Managers
    Wednesday, June 7 (6:00pm – 8:00pm)
    Join representatives from different sectors and industries as they discuss the current trends and hiring practices in today’s labor market. This distinctive panel includes guest speakers from BMO (Banking), Metrolinx (Government/ Transportation), Women’s Leadership Initiative (Real Estate), GeoComply (Cyber Security), and Adecco (HR Provider & Employee Resources). Come with your questions and join the conversation!
 
  • Session 3 — Building Confidence & Communication Skills
    Thursday, June 8 (6:00pm – 8:00pm)
    Effective communication is an invaluable skill in today’s competitive labour market. Successful communicators know how to build relationships and are open to exploring new opportunities. Tapping into this super-power is essential and requires both physical and mental strength. Get cozy for an intimate chat between Executive Coach Kadine Cooper and Mindset & Wellness Expert Sonia Jhas as they discuss values alignment, creating and maintaining momentum, and how to advocate for yourself.
 
  • Session 4 — Identifying Career Paths & New Skills
    Friday, June 9 (10:00am – 12:00pm)
    Identifying & Sustaining Career Paths: Making decisions about your job or career can be overwhelming. Whether you’re figuring out what’s next or you’ve already taken the first few steps, there are many things to consider and infinite possibilities. During this breakout session with Career Coach Cheryl Henry and Talent Development Manager & Transition Coach Andrea Khan, you’ll gain practical tips and tools for a better understanding of who you are, what you want, and how to get there.
    Growing Your Career Skills: Take the next step today by adding new skills to your toolkit! Join Vanessa Duarte, Head of Training at Adecco Staffing Canada, to discover free upskilling and reskilling courses that are available to you at any time through the online tool, Precipio. Learn how to master the easy-to-navigate interface and access modules ranging from life-skills and career readiness to advanced courses in small business management and administrative assistant careers. We’ll also highlight courses to help you transition into office and remote jobs.

This engaging and holistic experience will provide attendees with the chance to learn from and speak with representatives from diverse organizations and industries across the GTHA, network with each other, and have some fun!

Pre-registered attendees* will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in a one-on-one, 30-minute working session with a career mentor
  • Connect with community members, and supporting organizations
  • Network with other participants
  • Enjoy light refreshments
  • Be entered to win prizes
  • Receive two TTC tokens

During the one-on-one, 30-minute working session with a career mentor, participants will have the opportunity to focus on one of the following three career support topics:
  1. Resume review (please bring a hard copy)
  2. Cover letter review (please bring a hard copy)
  3. LinkedIn profile review

We recommend that those wishing to discuss their resume or cover letter come prepared with hard copies. Light refreshments will be available to all attendees. Face masks, rubber gloves, and hand sanitizer will be provided, with use at the discretion and comfort of each attendee.
 
*The first 100 pre-registered participants who attend the in-person portion on Saturday, June 10 will have the opportunity to book a headshot and one-on-one career mentorship session. Additionally, the first 250 pre-registered participants who attend the in-person portion will receive upon arrival two TTC tickets and be entered into a draw to win 1 of 5 laptop. Draws will take place hourly and winners must be in attendance to claim their prize. Prizes not redeemable for cash.
